More visitors, Brian and Nancy
More visitors from Boulder, the Sperrys. Brian and Nancy met us in Golfito in their rental car and we spent a few days in Golfo Dulce, on Batwing, visiting the furthest north reef for morning fishing and swimming then ended up trying to find the animal rescue place, failing that, found the Orchid Gardens that are only accessible by boat. We survived a rain storm and made it back to the anchorage in Golfito intact. Next on our agenda was a trip to the Osa penensula, the most desolate part of Costa Rica where we found many Coti and Scarlet Macaws. Next we headed to the Chirripo area to a lovely animal sanctuary sloths and birds, and after a trip to teh cloud reserve Chirripo, said goodbye to Nancy and Brian. It was again too short a visit but lots of fun!

Hi, Guys - Looks like you're still having a great time. Regarding your comments about lightining strikes, Batwing used to have a temporary system for that. I got an aluminum tube about 8' long, flattened and drilled one end, and bolted a heavy wire to it. Then I lashed the tube to the spare halyard on the main mast at the middle of the tube and at the bottom. When hoisted, the tube stuck about 4 feet above the masthead. The wire had about 10' of insulation stripped off, and it was allowed to trail in the water. Probably more wire would be better, as 1 square foot of copper is the usual specification for lightning grounding. Good luck, Tim Dunn
