Surgery was sucessful however his ear began to leak fluid so to alleviate pressure in his head and allow healing of the brain membrane, he had to be attached via a long thin tube to a reservoir. Brian and Nancy met us in Golfito in their rental car and we spent a few days in Golfo Dulce, on Batwing, visiting the furthest north reef for morning fishing and swimming then ended up trying to find the animal rescue place, failing that, found the Orchid Gardens that are only accessible by boat. He liked our kayak and later his dad Carlos came down and asked us if he could make a mold from the kayak's hull. (first picture is of the break in the shaft) We woke up at 4:45 in the morning and with the help of 6 other cruisers (4 dinghies, two onboard), we were dinghied down to the yacht club wall to tie up and wait for the tide to  ebb. We guessed that because they live in Mexico City where they stand in line for busses and such, the crowds and lines they experience on vacation is to be expected. Not for us! There we met Tom and Ann on Leonidas, a santa Cruz couple with a very distinctive sailing canoe. Tom had cut an old Grumman canoe in half so it could nest on his 32 ft Dreadnought, and made his unique sailing rig.
